Fiber optic characteristic which is flexible and durable makes it important medium for transmitting and receiving the data in the form of light. Fiber optic sensor can be used to detect temperature, pressure, vibration and other measurable parameters. Nowdays, fiber optic technologies are widely used in sensor field because these are simple, low cost and very efficient. The main purpose of this project is about developing fiber optic sensor. This project is focused on developing or designing differential pressure measuring transducer using diaphragm technique to measure the liquid flow. In the project review, an overview of the most popular sensing techniques are discussed, including their theoretical backgrounds, main characteristics and some important criteria of pressure sensor system. The system is implemented to give the continuous reading of fluid flow velocity using the fiber optic sensor with the help of fiber optic receiver and transmitter circuits. The results of this system are then analysed to fulfill the primary objective of this project. At the end of the report, suggestions on how this project could be improved in future are discussed. In conclusion, this project succeeds to achieve the objective which is to measure water flow using fiber optic technology.
