The main purpose of this project is to design SMPS circuit using boost topologymwith output power 500W ( output voltage = 250V and output current = 2A). Rectifier circuit will be integrated with boost chopper main circuit hence AC voltage source will be used instep of DC source. Input voltage for this SMPS project will be on 110V AC. Basically boost topology is used based on this SMPS project based on two purpose. One is the capability of this topology circuit to step-up input voltage with higher efficiency. Second of all, we can achieve a good result with less complexity circuit, furthermore reducing the cost of the project. The design and simulation for this boost circuit will be carried out using PSIM 4.5. The efficiency of the circuit obtained simulation is 95.25% while in practically the efficiency fall into 40% to 60% range witch is in the average level. This is because the switching frequency used for the simulation and practical is high which is 125kHz. Hence, this occurrence proved that the efficiency of the circuit is dependant of switching frequency. In switching circuit, MOSFET is used as a switch and PWM scheme will be used as a switching control method. This can be done by using IC SG3525A and TC 4427 to drive the MOSFET. In conclusion, the project objective has been archived where switching and SMPS circuit has been implemented successfully.
