Abstract
According to Section 25 of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139) and Regulation 38 of the Factories and Machinery (Safety, Health and Welfare) Regulations 1970, an employer have the responsibility to provide and maintain a first-aid box of such standard as may be prescribed and ensuring the box is readily accessible at all times. Besides, under the Fire Services Act 1988, stern action can be taken against building owners if their building does not meet fire safety regulations including expiration of firefighting equipment such as fire extinguisher. Building owners could face up to a RM5,000 fine and not more than three years’ imprisonment if found guilty of fire safety infringement. However, the maintenance process of first aid and firefighting supplies is conducted manually and it is resource consuming. Hence, this project aims to overcome this issue with the aids of Internet of Thing (IoT) module and a web application which will warn user whenever there is any item running low or expired via email notification. The web application is hosted at WIX with several web modules and endpoint that is prepared to monitor and run recurring check on the status of item from the structural database as well as handle the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) GET and PUT request from the IoT modules. On the other hand, the IoT module is used for monitoring the usage of item in emergency kit where it is powered by ESP12e as its processing unit and Infrared (IR) sensor is utilised to detect the usages of item when the item is leaved and placed back. The usages of items will be recorded in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format and transfer to the database via HTTP protocol over the internet. At the end of this project, it is found that email notification is triggered according to the recurring check date which has been set. Besides, user can monitor and update the usages or expiry date of item using both computer and mobile device. On top of that, an online reporting portal is prepared for user to make a report if the replacement of item has not take places or they had found item ran out, expired or degraded.
