Abstract
Microstrip bandpass filters have a very important usage in the microwave frequency ranges since classical filter structures using passive lumped elements are not suitable at these frequencies due to the increasing influence of various parasitic effects within the filter’s elements. Practically, the main concern of various bandpass filter designs is the overall size of the filter to be printed. Miniature sized printed bandpass filters are preferred for integration with various microwave systems. The objective of this project is to design and fabricate a miniature sized microstrip bandpass filter with a center frequency of 2.5GHz, which is in the S-band frequency range. A new concept of identical filter resonator coupling is applied with the aim of minimizing the overall dimensions of the filter. The design is begun with filter configuration of lumped components only before transforming the configuration into its microstrip transmission line equivalent. The lumped element configuration is used mainly as a prototype draft to determine the parameters of microstrip lines. The bandpass filter which is designed in this project operates at center frequency of 2.5GHz and has a miniature size of 9.652mm x 9.652mm. Through this project, it is proved that miniature sized microstrip bandpass filters can be designed and fabricated using the new concept of filter configuration which is introduced. This configuration can be used to design miniature sized microstrip bandpass filters with other operating frequencies for various usage in the microwave field.
