Abstract
The scope of this project is mainly focus on the design of Ka band frequency multiplier. Frequency multiplier is mostly used in modern communication system as the transmitting and receiving purposes. The Ka band frequency multiplier is design intended to operate at output frequency of 36GHz. The frequency multiplier MMIC designs is developed using 0.15um GaAs PHEMT technology and packaged into QFN package with SMT application. The aim of this study is to obtain a pre-determined multiples output frequency at Ka band range which is 36GHz by converting the input frequency. This project is consisting of two designs of frequency multiplier which is x2 broadband frequency multiplier from Hittite Microwave Corporation with frequency range from 8GHz to 22GHz and Medium Power Amplifier or multiplier by Triquint Semiconductor with frequency range from 22GHz to 38GHz. Then, frequency multiplier design is simulated using EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools which is Agilent Advance Design System (ADS). The designs are implemented into Printed Board Circuit (PCB) with dielectric constant of 3.38 by using Rogers R04003. Both designs are analyzed by the frequency set earlier which is for first design (Hittite) is at 4 GHz while the second design (Triquint) is at 8GHz. By analyzed both circuit, the results of the output frequency and output power will be obtain at the final design after the implementation from software to hardware.
