The temperature of the human body is a critical indicator of an individual's overall health, as deviations from the normal range may signal illness and necessitate immediate medical attention. This project focuses on developing a tunable ring oscillator for use as a human body temperature sensor, which is integrated into a circuit design. The study's primary objectives are to design a ring oscillator capable of measuring body temperature within the range of 35 to 45 degrees Celsius and to operate at tunable frequency bands of 2.73 to 2.83 GHz and 3.02 to 3.57 GHz. The entire sensor design was implemented using SILTERRA's Virtuoso Cadence standard process technology, featuring a 0.18 μm resolution. The design of the temperature sensor leverages the capabilities of Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) technology, known for its low power consumption, compact size, and ease of integration. The use of a tunable ring oscillator in the temperature sensor circuit allows for precise temperature measurement, reducing the risk of cross-contamination and transmission of illnesses, which is a significant concern with traditional contact thermometers. The ring oscillator's design also includes the potential for integration with other circuit components, enhancing the system's flexibility and reducing complexity. The project results demonstrate the successful implementation of the ring oscillator, achieving the desired frequency ranges and accurate temperature readings. This innovative sensor design offers a promising solution for non-invasive, accurate, and reliable body temperature monitoring, making it suitable for various healthcare and consumer electronics applications. The study concludes that the developed CMOS-based temperature sensor, utilizing a tunable ring oscillator, provides an effective means of monitoring human body temperature with high accuracy and efficiency.
