Abstract
Smart Home is a building technology which focuses on in-house application of automation system. In most recent years, Smart Home becomes a possible solution in which every electrical appliance can be controlled through a master computing system. To further improve the system, context-awareness feature has been recently developed by using Artificial Intelligence technique. In this project, the main aim is to simulate the network communication ability to achieve remote monitoring of the system. The internal network of the Smart Home system which consist of Body Area Network and Personal Area Network will be researched, designed and implemented. To achieve the remote monitoring capability of the system, the Smart Home is linked to the internet through its residential gateway such as Local Area Network, Metropolitan Area Network and Wide Area Network. The overall system will be consisted of Microcontroller Slave Device, Master PC and Client PC. C language will be implemented on the firmware of Microcontroller Slave Device while Java language will be implemented on the Master and Client PCs. The experimental result has shown the great precision and reliability of the system. However, the system is not fully tested under critical condition such as a great latency between the Master and Client PCs.
