Abstract
A rain gauge is a type of instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to gather and measure the amount of liquid or solid precipitation over a set period of time. Most raingauges generally measure the precipitation in millimeters. The tipping bucket rain gauge consists of a large copper cylinder. At the top of the cylinder is a funnel that collects and channels the precipitation. The precipitation falls onto one of two small buckets or levers which are balanced in same manner as a scale. After an amount of precipitation equal to 0.5 mm falls the lever tips and generate an electrical signal. This project is focused on how to develop data from rain gauge when there are raining day. Development of this project was done in three separate parts. These three parts are collect data from rain gauge, calculate the rain rate and rainfall for each minute, and plot out graph for rain rate and rain fall. For collecting data from rain gauge, data logger type DATAQ (DI-194RS) was used. All thedata were collect in each second and save in the Microsoft Excel. Then, calculate the rain rate and rainfall part and plot graph part was done using Microsoft Visual Basic macros. In conclusion, the data from rain gauge can be developing well using this system.
