Abstract
Integrated circuits are used in virtually all electronic equipment today and have revolutionized the world of electronics. Computers, mobile phones, and other digital home appliances are now inextricable parts of the structure of modern societies, made possible by the low cost of production of integrated circuits. Most of the improvements on its products have resulted essentially from the industry’s ability to exponentially decrease the minimum feature sizes used to fabricate integrated circuits. So to improve the performance of the design, Cadence full custom design tools have been used to design and simulate the circuit based on the Silterra 0.18 μm technology. The circuits are designed base on the CMOS IC design flow. The circuit is designed to operate on the supply voltage (Vdd) 0.5 volt. In this study, two types of circuitry were studied. There are ring oscillators and Edge-triggered D-flip-flop counter. The ring oscillator is used to provide the frequency. The Edge-triggered D-flip-flop counter will be designed to conduct the frequency division. Result of the simulation was analyzed. The frequencies obtained were 33.33 kHz and 16.66 kHz.
