Abstract
Endophytic fungus isolated from medicinal plant has long been reported to possess plethora antibacterial potentials. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate the therapeutic value of endophytic fungus isolated from the medicinal herbs, ocimum basilicum leaves against few pathogens. A total of 83 fungal endophytes were successfully isolated from different leaves stages. After subsequent screening, only one fungal endophyte (fn-ob51) was selected to be further studied. The selected isolate was identified as curvularia perotidis fn-ob51. Then, an improvement of culture conditions was conducted using various parameters to increase the antibacterial activity and lower the incubation period of the endophyte fungi. Upon tested with series of antibacterial activities, curvularia perotidis fn-ob51 showed potent antibacterial activities with minimal inhibitory concentration (mic) and minimal bactericidal concentration (mbc) values ranged 0.625 mg/ml to 2.50 mg/ml. In time kill study, the crude extract of curvularia perotidis fn-ob51 showed antibacterial activities in dose-dependent manner.
