Abstract
Internet provides an environment for developing several applications for educations purpose. The scope of this project is to develop a web-based real time video transmission system for managing the laboratory. In this project, a wireless camera will be attached to a mobile robot which will help to capture live image in the laboratory. The real time video transmission system will work together with a wirelessly controlled mobile robot system which is developed my another colleague, Mr Zul Ezzanie. The purpose of this system is to provide acceptable and good quality real time image for the clients. A program is developed using java programming to perform image capturing, image compression and image transmission task. PHP is used to get the image from the web server and display the image in the web page. In this dissertation, JPEG2000 compression technique based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is applied. The system demonstrates that the JPEG2000 implementation has outperformed the existing visual feedback using JPEG in terms of image compression size and transmission speed although JPEG2000 compression and decompression computational time is increased. By using web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, the client may view the real time video through the video server’s IP address (eg:http://65.54.23.10/).
