Abstract
Car locating system using Global System for Mobile (GSM) and android application is important to ensure security for car drivers. Currently, the accident rate in Malaysia is surging as well as the theft of luxury cars. The absence of car locating system and accident detection system in cars nowadays made it hard to locate the location of accident. This may create difficulty to emergency safety and rescue department because of the poor details by the civilians present at the location of incident. Moreover, the failure in installing tracking system in cars made police officers could not detect the location of the stolen car causing a huge lead in time before the cars are found. This project introduces a car locating system which uses GSM to send a short message service (SMS) to emergency contact when an accident is detected by the sensors attached in the car bumpers. An android application called Blynk is also developed which tracks the location of car with a single click in case the car was stolen or the user forgot where he left the car. This project is progressed in 3 stages which arethe planning stage, implementation stage and the analysis stage. In planning stage, data required in the project is collected from various sources together with hardware and software requirement which is described to create this prototype. Next is the implementation stage where the procedure of implementing the data collected to the project is explained, followed with testing and troubleshooting to test and verify the functionality of prototype. Lastly, the analysis stage where the project is once again verified and analysed to enhance the prototype followed with identifying the conclusion. Through this project, the coordinates generated by the Global Positioning System (GPS) module is calculated to find the current location and to determine the accuracy of GPS module. Moreover, the time taken to send a SMS to emergency contact through the GSM module was also recorded and tabulated in a table. From results, it was found that this project is functional to be implemented in cars for the purpose of locating and to alert emergency contact in case of accident.
