This research aims to analyze the performance of various high-efficiency solar modules in a tropical climate, such as Malaysia, using a microcontroller and data logger system to measure voltage, current, temperature, and irradiance. The study will focus on characterizing the performance of four state of the art of silicon solar modules: half-cell monocrystalline, interdigitated back contact (IBC), heterojunction intrinsic thin (HIT), and bifacial silicon solar modules. The performance of each module will be evaluated through various parameters such as power output, efficiency, and temperature coefficient. Data will be collected over a period of time using different kind of sensors and the data logger system develop based on Arduino platform. The results of the study will be used to compare and contrast the performance of the different types of solar modules, with the goal of identifying the most suitable type for use in tropical climates. The research found that the heterojunction intrinsic thin module had the best performance, followed by the bifacial and half-cell monocrystalline modules. Conversely, the interdigitated back contact module exhibited the lowest performance. Overall, this research aims to provide valuable insights into the performance of high-efficiency solar modules in tropical climates using an Arduino data logger. The findings can inform the design and deployment of solar energy systems in similar regions and contribute to the development of more efficient and cost-effective solar energy systems.
