Optical communication is any form of telecommunication that uses light as the transmission medium. An optical communication system consist of a transmitter which encodes a message into an optical signal, a channel, which carries that signal to its destination, and a receiver, which reproduces the message from the receiver optical signal. This project is to design a set of optical communication system with transmitter and receiver. Two receivers with 100kHz bandwidth and 3MHz bandwidth respectively had been designed. Both receivers have minimum effective range 20dB to 30dB, and SNR 50dB to 60dB. For this project, LED and PIN photodiode had been used as emitter and detector respectively. For transmitter, BJT 3391A was used for the circuit, while for the receiver, JFET 4339 was used.
