Abstract
The fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0, has ushered in a new era of technological advancements and automation across various industries. One significant
aspect of Industry 4.0 is the implementation of Mixed Reality (MR) technology, which has the potential to revolutionize maintenance practices. This research focuses on developing and implementing MR applications using Microsoft HoloLens 2 for preventive maintenance. The objectives of this research project encompass the development of the MR application, its implementation on the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device, and the evaluation of measurement accuracy. The theoretical foundations of MR and its applications in preventive maintenance are explored through a comprehensive review of literature and studies. The benefits and challenges associated with this emerging technology are also highlighted. The MR application is developed using Unity with Vuforia Engine and C#. The application is then implemented on the Microsoft HoloLens 2 headset, providing workers with enhanced visualization and interactive guidance for maintenance tasks. The evaluation of measurement accuracy demonstrates the effectiveness of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 in measuring objects. The obtained results reveal a percentage of GR&R at 2.27%, which falls well below the 10% threshold. This indicates that the measurement function integrated into the FG PM application is a reliable measurement system. This research contributes to the understanding of MR applications in the context of preventive maintenance within Industry 4.0. The implemented MR application showcases the potential to revolutionize maintenance practices by providing improved visualization, interactive guidance, and precise measurements. Embracing MR technology can optimize preventive maintenance and minimize machine downtime. The findings underscore the importance of integrating MR solutions to unlock new frontiers in preventive maintenance, elevating maintenance practices to unprecedented levels of efficiency and operational excellence. By adopting MR technology, organizations can leverage its transformative benefits to enhance maintenance processes and achieve significant improvements in overall operational performance.
