Abstract
Nowadays, the demand for electric vehicle (EV) production increases because this type of transportation provides an alternative to the conventional vehicle that uses power by fossil fuels and reducing the dependence on use of gasoline. However, the major deterrent to their mass penetration is the long charging time. This paper proposes an alternative technique to reduce the effective charging time, involving lithium ion battery and a supercapacitor. In this report, we will be discussing on Electric Vehicle (EV) fast charger with a Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) and Super-Capacitor (SC). The EV fast charger consists of an AC/DC rectifier
and LLC (Inductor-Inductor-Capacitor) resonant Full bridge converter. The LLC resonant converter has high-efficiency and low switching loss because of Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS). So, it is used widely in the industry. As EV gets charged, the grid's AC (alternating current) electricity is converted to the batteries' DC (direct current). The supply voltage is 240 V and 50 Hz frequency. The combination of lithium-ion battery and super-capacitor as loads that fast charger supplies voltage to can power the electric vehicle. This project has been carried out in MATLAB/Simulink software. It involved the designing of a LLC resonant Full bridge converter,AC supply, full wave bridge rectifier, lithium-ion battery and super-capacitor.
