dc.description.abstract | Silicone rubber is widely used for high voltage insulation due to its excellent dielectric properties. However, its long-term performance can be compromised by partial discharge (PD) activity under high electrical stress. This thesis investigates the development of PD in silicone rubber and its impact on material degradation. The research explores the relationship between applied voltage, PD characteristics (magnitude, quantity, and pattern), and the formation of electrical trees within the silicone rubber. Various diagnostic techniques, such as partial discharge detection and analysis, will be employed to monitor PD activity. The objectives of the experiment is to model the non uniform e-field configuration in SiR using needle-plane & investigate the e-field distribution between needle-plane occur in SiR due to PD using FEM. Additionally, the influence of factors like filler content, temperature, and aging on PD development will be examined. This study aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of PD initiation and propagation mechanisms in silicone rubber under high voltage. The findings will contribute to the development of improved diagnostic methods and material formulations for enhanced insulation reliability in high voltage applications. | |
