A one year (2006) tropospheric scintillation measurement was conducted in USM using satellite beacon signal measurement system at Ku-band frequency (12.255GHz) with elevation angle 40.10. “KisyoDisp.vi” program, Microsoft Excel, Agilent VEE (Visual Engineering Environment) Programming and Matlab are used to investigate and analyze the measured scintillation data. The cumulative distributions of scintillation derived from the measured data are presented and compared with existing prediction models. Only Mandeep model (Mandeep, 2006) has shown good agreement with the available experimental data. This model actually results from the ITU scintillation model which was revised by Dr. Mandeep Singh (USM) to fit the measured data obtained from the measurement site in USM. This project has proved once again that the altered ITU model (Mandeep) shows significant improvements in terms of reduced prediction error over existing models with the lowest RMS value. For other prediction models, reasons were figured out as to why they are rejected by considering the potentials and limits of each prediction model. Since Mandeep model (Mandeep, 2006) has high prediction accuracy for the whole cumulative distribution of scintillation data, it is used to calculate scintillation at Ka-band (20GHz, 30GHz and 40GHz). Scintillation amplitude or intensity is forecasted to be increased with the increase of channel frequency. With acceptable and desirable results, this case study of tropospheric scintillation at Ka-band is a great success.
