| dc.description.abstract | Due to industrialisation and urbanisation, the Chinese government increasingly focuses on high-quality, innovation-driven, and sustainable development. Urban agglomeration is a crucial platform for new quality productive forces and significantly fosters regional rivalry and collaboration in China. Based on the panel data of 95 cities in China from 2011 to 2021, the study assessed and compared the environmental regulation, collaborative innovation, and high-quality economic development of China’s five major urban agglomerations. Then, it analysed the impact of environmental regulation on collaborative innovation using the Tobit model. Next, it analysed the impact of environmental regulation and collaborative innovation on high-quality economic development using fixed-effects and moderating effect models. The results show that the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration and the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration outperform the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and the Central Plains urban agglomeration in terms of environmental regulation, collaborative innovation, and high-quality economic development. | |
