Communication is one of an important aspect in life. Due to the advancement in centuries and its growing demands, there has been rapid growth in the field of communications. Signals, which were initially sent in the analogue domain, are being sent in the digital domain these days. For better transmission, every single carrier wave is being replaced by multi carriers. Nowadays, Multi carrier systems like CDMA and OFDM are now being implemented commonly. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive technique for wireless communication application. Orthogonally placed sub carriers are used to carry the data from the transmitter end to the receiver end. However, OFDM signal has a large peak to average power ratio which results in significant distortion when passed through a nonlinear device such as transmitter power amplifier. This thesis is focused on learning the basics of an OFDM system and has undertaken a method of clipping and filtering to reduce the PAPR in the system so that this system can be used more commonly and effectively. The modulation scheme and the number of subcarrier are used to evaluate the performance of PAPR in OFDM system.
