Abstract
Prawn is delicious seafood commonly found in a banquet. Its distinctive taste and texture are highly praised, but peeling off its shell to retrieve its meat is tedious. Therefore, a new prawn peeler is designed in this project to overcome the above matter. Designing such product is considered as a challenge; while adding to the complexity is other criteria associated which also have to be attained to such as user friendliness, effectiveness of de-shelling and low produeing cost. The whole project has undergone a number of stages. On the outset, benchmarking allows examining of competitor products, before a handful of concept designs were generated. Corresponding prototypes were built and the experiments were set up to verify the prototypes* mechanisms. Iterative improvement and modification of designs followed suit to ensure that the designs were indeed matching the objectives. In order to protect the innovation as an intellectual property, the best concept design was selected and ready to be filed for patent.
