An investigation was carried out on the sorption of nitrogen on the Kempas ( Koo_m_pos.si~ malaccensis ) at 77 K. In a~dition, studies on its densities, calorific values as well as mois~ure contents were determined. The isotherm for the sapwood !as type III, whereas for heartwood was a 'weak' type II. This indicates that no polar sites are available for nitrogen adsorption. The density measurements together with the sorption studies suggest that the vessels ( pores) in Kempas are quite large. The results also indicate that no major differences in chemical composition of the major components occur in the heartwood and sapwood of Kempas.en_US
