dc.description.abstractScience learning needs to take place in the context of the student's experiences because studies show that the students have some kind of connection between their science learning and lived experiences. At the same time, students bring their lived experiences into the classroom while learning science and the teachers ability to utilize, identify, and connect a various aspect of student's lived experienced to science learning will help them to create a meaningful learning environment to their students. The ability of teacher to utilize the student's lived experiences in teaching process also will help their students to make a connection between "what they learn in the classroom and what they gain from their surrounding", and at the same time give opportunity to students to learn science in more interesting environment either in their classroom, or outside the classroom. This study aims to investigate the use of student's cultural experiences, or lived experiences in learning physics, and their effects on physics students' learning environment, academic self-concept, and student's self-efficacy. Student's cultural experiences refer to the student's knowledge about their surrounding such as their knowledge about various culture objects or artifacts in their surrounding familiar to them. Based on the instructional congruence strategy, the integration of student's cultural experiences was done through a set of physics learning activities in MAPI and in the Form 4 Physics Teaching Courseware (F4PTC). The effects of the integration of students' cultural experiences through instructional congruence strategy has been investigated using IPPDKA instrument, which was administered to the 210 Form Four Physics students of eight secondary schools in Kedah. Data gathered was analyzed with descriptive analysis, cluster xvii analysis, t-test, and MANCOVA. Generally, the findings of this study showed that the integration of student's cultural experiences through the instructional congruence strategy gave a significant positive effect on Physics students' learning environment, academic self-concept and student's self-efficacy.en_US
