Abstract
The common measuring devices that used nowadays is measuring tape. A simple measuring tape are alternating with black and white stripes. The tape is extended along the object to be measured and by manually reading the numbers that indicates the measurement. The measuring tape can take reading of the object that had length in the measuring tape range only. Therefore, it is hard to measure the length of object that can’t stand straight because the measuring tape are easy to be folded and be stretched. This will make the reading not accurate. A device which can automatically read and count the black and white stripes accurately is clearly needed. This project develop a device which can detect and count the black and white stripes. TCRT5000 will give signal pulse as input. The pulse signal will be produced by the optical encoder. The black and white stripes will be counted based on the pulses. An investigation is made to find the sensor accuracy based on the size of stripes. A formula is tested on this project using a velocity formula.
