The study conducted is to compare the performance of 3 sets of different septic tanks. Located at Desa Aman,. USM~ this study was conducted using 3 scale experimental septic tanks (single-compartmen~ two-compartment and three-compartment). The experimental units were fed with a mixture of sewage in order to imitate the characteristics of wastewater from USM campus, with chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BODs) concentration. From the series of experiments, the three-compartment unit showed significantly higher removal efficiencies than the other two septic tanks in terms of SS, COD and BOD5• The introduction of baffles also led to a considerable stabilization of the treatment process. The impact of influent fluctuations in terms of COD, BODs and SS on the characteristics of the effluent was the lowest in the three-compartment septic tank. All the results produced in the study conducted satisfied and complied with Standard B of Environmental Quality Ac~ 1974.en_US
