Abstract
Findings in the area of philosophy cannot be separated from the educational field. Specifically, findings in philosophy are the basis for the establishment of the educationalaims and objective, curriculum design, methodology in teaching and learning, methods of teaching evaluation and learning and all the elements that develop the education process. Education philosophy which refers to the component of metaphysic, epistemology and axiology cannot be borrowed or based on other disciplines. It must be designed from the existing, religions, cultures, associations and variations, weaknesses and strengths of our society. Therefore, this study aims to explore and identify Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah‟s thought (691H/1292M-751H/ 1350M) in the field of education based on the book Miftah Dar al-Sa‘adah Wa Mansyur Walayah al-‘Ilmi wa al-Iradah. This study is qualitative in nature and utilizes the documentation method which consists of primary sources and secondary sources. The main primary source is Miftah Dar al-Sa‘adah and other related writings of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah. The secondary source is studies on education thought, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah‟s thought in various fields and other related studies. In analyzing the data, the researcher used five qualitative methods of analysis which are inductive, deductive, comparative, socio-historical and content analysis method.The study found that almost all of the aspects in metaphysic discussion, epistemology and axiology towards Islamic education thought which are theoretical in nature have been discussed in Miftah Dar al-
Sa‘adah. Based on the findings, the researcher can conclude that Islamic education thought of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah comprises of definition of education, purpose of education, curriculum and teaching and learning methodology. The results of the study clearly shows the leadership skills of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah in Islamic education thought. Apart from that, the prominence of Miftah Dar al-Sa‘adah as a literature that is rich with Islamic education theories which are eternal and spiritual can be used to empower the National Education Philosophy.
