| dc.description.abstract | Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr, known in Jakarta as Sambung nyawa is a tradi tiona! medicinal herb from the Compositae Family, which is believed to be useful as a febrifuge in a few eruptive fevers, in the treatment for rash, as a remedy for kidney trouble, prevention of rheumatism, eliminate lethargy especialli in old people and for colon cancer and haemarrhoids. The aim of this study is to ·determine the chemical components and pharmacognosical parameter for Gynura procumbens herb. The dried powdered leaves of the herb was extracted continuously with petroleum ether (60- B00C) , chloroform and methanol. Three classes of compounds were isolated from the petroleum et!"ter extract; nonadecane (saturated acyclic hydrocarbon), phytyl valerate (ester of acyclic diterpenoid) and a mixture of asitosterol and stigmasterol (steroid). Isolation of the chloroform extract afforded sterol glycosides, a m. ixture of a-si. tosterol and stigmasterol glucosides which was further confirmed by conversion to the corresponding acetate with pyridine-acetic anhydride. Nucleic acid adenosine and two flavonoid glycosides kaempferol 3-0-glucoside and kaempferol 3-0- neohesperidoside were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves. | en_US |
