dc.description.abstractThe research is a study in connection with the idea of ‘Melayu Raya’ nationalism. The nationalists that adhere to this principle hold the ambition of uniting all the Malays living in the Malay archipelago under one political entity. The Malay archipelago historical background is used as the fundamental vision and catalyst towards generating retaliation against the western colonization. KMM, PKMM, AWAS and other equal radical groups are pertinent names associated with the struggle of Melayu Raya Nationalism. Some of the political figures that uphold this ideology are Ibrahim Haji Yaakob, Ahmad Boestamam and Dr Burhanuddin Al-Helmy. These politicians in return manifest their belief through a political struggle which faces a lot of obstacles in realizing their dream. A few decades in subsequent to the Malayan Independence the Melayu Raya political agenda term faded and diminished. The Melayu Raya idea is now only relevant in the language, literature and cultural contexts. Malay Archipelago relationships are now apparent only through collaboration programs like seminars and conventions.en_US
