Abstract
The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 provides the legislative frame-work
to promote, stimulate and encourage high standards of safety at work. The aim is
to promote safety and health awareness, and establish effective safety
organisation and performance through self-regulation schemes designed to suit
the particular industry or organisation.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act enforce to implement safety precaution
seem not to take much effect since the accident rate is still high especially in
I
construction areas. Establishing the safety committee as allocated in OSHA to
ensure the safety of employees at the workplace should minimise the accident rate
in construction sector.
The research are twofold which to see the implementation of the Act through the
setting of safety committee and to seek the factors affecting it's effectiveness.
The research indicated that the contractors do procedures that stated in the Act
but the implementation of the safety programme not effective due to lack of control
and supervision.
