dc.description.abstractThe study is related to laws, administration and the use of halal logo in North Sumatera, Indonesia. The study has three objectives. Firstly, to identify the position of halal laws, administration and the aplication of halal logo in Indonesia. Second, to analyse the supporting and inhibiting factors of laws, administration and the use of halal logo in Indonesia. Thirdly, to propose a streamline laws, administration and the use of halal logo in North Sumatera, Indonesia. Library research and field research are conducted to obtain those three objectives. Library research is applied to obtain secondary data, while field research is to get primary data that is used to streamline laws, administration and the use of halal logo. Field research is conducted through expert interview, observation and documentation study. Qualitative method is applied in processing primary and secondary data. The study reveals that there is not sufficient laws nor regulation addresses halal logo in North Sumatera, Indonesia. Lawful administrative process of halal logo by involving the cooperation of food and drug regulatory board (BPOM), Ministry of religion, and Moslem Scholars Assembly of Indonesia (MUI). There should be a stronger role of food and drug regulatory board (BPOM) and Ministry of religion in halal logo arrangement in the future for every producers can set freely halal logo in their own form, colour, size, types of writing and material. All these things happen because there is no obligation to use the standard halal logo. There are various laws and regulations related to legal administration of halal logo. The administrative process of halal logo still need to be completed for the existing procedure has caused many difficulties in practise. The study find out that there are various ways in generating halal laws as well as the obstacle to draft halal logo laws. This study implies the efforts to enact the law, administration and use of the halal logo, either by strengthening the institutional inspector or streamline the administrative mechanism of the halal logo. Other strategies that need be considered is the improvement of halal certificate supervision and socialization of halal logo.en_US
