Abstract
A polarization reconfigurable patch antenna suitable for fifth generation (5G) mobile systems applications operating at millimeter waves (mm-wave) is presented in this project. The mm-Wave band has been identified as an excellent candidate for 5G communications due to the available bandwidth where it has band spectrum between 25 GHz and 300 GHz. Due to many technical challenges exist at mm-Wave frequencies, circular polarized radiation is one of effective technique to adapt to the challenges which it can mitigate these transmitting and receiving antenna misalignment problems or polarization mismatch. The proposed antenna consists of corner-truncated square radiating element and two microstrip transmission line feed to produce circular polarization. The proposed antenna is designed on Roger RO4003C with h = 0.813 mm and dielectric constant of 3.55 and it is simulated using CST software. The simulated result shows that the presented antenna resonates at 28.155 GHz with the return loss of -42.801 dB and covering a band from 27.844 GHz to 28.636 GHz which has a bandwidth of 792 MHz. It is observed that the impedance of the proposed antenna is matched properly as the bandwidth covers the required band at 28 GHz with VSWR value of 1.014 with the gain of 5.84 GHz. This can be conclude that the proposed antenna achieved good performances suitable for the 5G applications. Besides, the parametric study on the antenna parameters has been done to improve the antenna performances.
