An effort to improve lignocellulosic composites properties was carried out in this research by montmorillonite (MMT -UTR) addition into the unsaturated polyester composites with unmodified and modified MMT. MMT-UTR was treated with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide {CTAB) and maleic anhydride (MAH). Result shows the increase of composites properties in the increasing of kenaf loading until the .·optimum point at additional 50% of kenaf loading. The thermogravimetric analisys showed that the addition of MMT into the polyester composites was enhanced the thermal properties of the composites. In this research composites were produced in room temperature. Tensile, flexural, impact and dimentional stability testing were carried out to investigate the effect of addition of kenaf, MMT-UTR, MMT-CTAB and MMT-MAH into unsaturated polyester composites. Based on unsaturated polyester composites filled with kenaf and without MMT -UTR, result shows the increase in properties with the increment of kenaf loading. The addition of MMT -UTR resulted improvement in mechanical properties. Meanwhile, addition of MMT-CTAB and MMT-MAH into the unsaturated polyester composites also enhanced the mechanical properties. MMTMAH addition in polyester composite showed better enhancement than MMT-UTR and MMT -CTAB. Dimentional stability test shows that water absorption were increased with increasing the kenaf loading and MMT -UTR. However after addition MMT-CTAB and MMT-MAH into the unsaturated polyester composites the water absorption was decreased.en_US
