Abstract
Since its emergence in the 19th century, photography has assumed many roles in people’s everyday life. One of the main roles of photography is to save and preserve memories for a long time. Thus, photography may be the most familiar visual medium. Visual communication is an effective means to influence people, applied photography has always been an influential method for communication and education. Conversely, artistic trend, as a special characteristic, differs considerably from other common uses of photography. This study, along with its practical project, intended to combine art with the characteristics of applied photography to draw public attention to the unseen or neglected values of the George Town Heritage Site. For this significant project, the researcher, as an experienced professional commercial photographer and artist, took numerous photographs of the eroded walls of George Town as a piece of art and installed each large-scale photograph on the same walls. This street photographic exhibition was conducted for one month, and during that time the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with 43 local and foreign respondents who visited the exhibition. The study utilised qualitative art practice as research methodology based on judgment sampling and semi-structured interviews. Results showed that the project was quite unique and that exhibitions similar to the project do not exist.
