dc.description.abstract | There is lack of conceptual model seeking to explain the relationship among critical success factors, internal control and safety performance especially in manufacturing sector of Malaysia. The enforcement of internal control is linked to safety performance, and more research is needed in order to validate the relationship. Unless researcher identified the critical success factors have the significant impact on safety and health, if not the safety management system such as OHSAS 18001 compliance auditing will have little impact on organisation’s safety performance. Thus, a self-administered questionnaire by using Likert 5 point scale that includes the critical success factors, internal control and safety performance scales were used to collect data in manufacturing sector of Malaysia. The questionnaire survey was conducted among the manufacturing firms in Malaysia with an amount of 300 questionnaires distributed through mail, emails and personal visit. As a result, 105 valid respondents were answered to the questionnaires. The internal control was found to be the key mediator in the relationship between critical success factors and safety performance. Path analysis using PLS software showed that Management Commitment, Employee Involvement, Safety Training and Government Regulation have relations with safety performance through enforcement of internal control. In view of such, researchers and practitioners should concentrate on the aforesaid significant critical success factors through enforcement of internal control in order to achieve outstanding safety performance in their manufacturing firms. | en_US |
