Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to ascertain the existance of the so-called Indonesia
sub-contractors in Malaysian Construction Industry. This research consists 3 main
objectives. The first objective is to determine the transformation process which allowing
an ordinary Indonesian construction labourer to become a sub-contractor. Second
objective is to review the level of success for so-called Indonesia sub-contractors business
in Malaysian Construction Industry. The last objective is to evaluate the implication due
to the existance of the so-called Indonesia sub-contractors phenomenon toward the local
contractors.
The intensification data collection process were made through literature reviews, formal
and informal interview with local contractor company representatives and also with the
Indonesian sub-contractor personnel.
The drastic growth of the Malaysian Construction Industry sees the harmonious
integration between the industry and the foreign construction labourers, mainly the
Indonesians. As the result of competitive nature of the construction industry environment,
the concept of sub-contracting has become trendy amongst local construction companies
in their effort to balance out the revenue and the construction operation costs. The byproduct
of this trend were private businesses establishment set-up by these Indonesian
construction labourers.
The result of studies have shown that the level the Indonesia sub-contractor businesses
establishment was temporary in nature, non-original, not growing / static and noncontinous
from long term perspective view.
