| dc.description.abstract | The main objective of the research study is to investigate whether there is a significant difference in the English vocabulary gained based on the mean score difference between the pre-test and post-test scores before and after the use of songs in teaching English vocabulary among preschoolers in Malaysia as well as the influence of gender on their vocabulary acquisition. The children are assessed on their prior English language knowledge through a pretest before going through a series of English lessons as well as a posttest after the lessons have been conducted. As the focus of the study is towards preschoolers in rural areas, the sample was selected from a rural government-run elementary school in the state of Terengganu, Malaysia. The sample consisted of two preschool classes, where one class represented the experimental group and the other group represented the control group. The scores from the pretests and posttests were collected and keyed into the Statistical Program for Social Sciences. Based on these scores, the descriptive statistics were calculated in order to examine the number of correct answers answered according to group and gender. The mean scores were calculated using the independent-sample and paired-sample t-tests. Results show that there is a significant difference in vocabulary gain between the teaching method of using songs and the teaching method without the use of songs. As for gender, results show that there is a significant difference between the vocabulary gained between the boys and girls who underwent the teaching method with the use of songs, where the use of songs had a greater impact on the boys compared to the girls. | en_US |
