dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this s~udy was to identify the relationship that exists between test anxiety, coping style and examination performances among students of different specializations at the institute of teacher education. Mean difference was used to compare ·test anxiety and coping style in four area of specializations which were Science and Mathematics, TESL, Languages and Skills. Mean difference was also used to compare area of specializations with test anxiety, worry and emotionality components, coping styles, state-anxiety, trait-anxiety and examination performance. Examination performances were measured using students' grade point average (GPA). Study samples were taken from three teacher education institutes in the Northern Region involving 380 students. Three instruments were used in this study; the State-trait Anxiety Inventory, the Test Anxiety Inventory and the Ways of Coping. This study was conducted before the final examination in April 2009. A total of eight null hypotheses were tested in this study by using Pearson Correlation and ANOV A. Survey results revealed that there was a significant correlation between test anxiety and exam performance and also between coping styles and test anxiety. The result confirmed that there was a significant correlation between test anxiety and ~xamination performance and there was a significant correlation between coping :tyles and test anxiety. In addition, qualitative analysis showed positive results a.'ld upported the quantitative findings. Students who were interviewed were found to XlV face stress, pressure from parents and friends, trait-anxiety, state-anxiety and testanxiety. They admit that having to adapt to these situations by using different coping styles in dealing with these concerns. However, there were no significant differences in mean scores of coping styles with the four areas of specializations which were Science and Mathematics, TESL, Languages, and Skills. This study also found that there was no significant relationship between coping styles and examination performanceen_US
