Abstract
The application of a reinforced concrete structure design has been used widely. In this
research, all the structures element have been design as reinforced concrete based on the
ultimate limit state philosophy employed in BS 8110 : Part 1 : 1997. The main objective
of this project is to design double storey concrete office building and its comparison with
manual calculation. The result will be compared in term of the shear force, the bending
moment on the main support as well as the mid-span and the total cross section area of
the main reinforcement required. Hence, the main building structure cost can be
determined from the STAAD-III output. This report also discuss the procedures and
methods of structural modeling used in STAAD-III as well as the advantages and
disadvantages of the STAAD-III software as a tool to analyze and design. The result
shows that the average of percentage differences in the shear force and the bending
moment for both method does not exceed more than 35%. Hence, the comparison
between the average cross section of main reinforcement also does not shows very much
difference which is less than 20% from the manual. It can be concluded that the STAADIII
software has the capability to analyze and design structures.
