dc.description.abstract | Architecture has evolved from a concept of simple shelter into a complex environmental control system. Science and engineering have developed equipment and techniques which make possible light, heat, sanitation and noise management, close to the nonns required for the balanced functioning of the human being. Buildings are known as a primarily social objects. Their forms provide answers to questions we ask about ourselves, ques!ions of power. order.· classification and function. Everything about a building has social meaning, its form, function and spatial structure are each capable of analysis. As the IT revolution of the 1980's accelerates into the 1990's with no sign of easing up, business. information and buildings remains closely linked. Technology has been viewed at various stages of civilization as leading to future progress The rate of change of technology is stronger today than at any other time in history. because it not only enters our work life, but that of our home life too. where gadgets and computers are becoming common in many homes. Intelligence is becoming an overrate word which can be used to describe modem buildings, camera or car cockpits. We are not even sure what human intelligence is, so how come we ascribe this description to products? There are many titles used to describe the new buildings designed to incorporate the latest in technologies. Overuse of these terms has blurred their meaning and burdened them with ambiguity. Yet the understanding of new approaches in building design is critical to the creation of more appropriate settings for present and future building technologies and activities. The aim of this dissertation is to explore the meaning of ·intelligent building" in detail. which involves the definition, the characteristic of an ·intelligent building" and also the concept behind, producing an ·intelligent building" in today's construction industry. This dissertation also tries to provokes questions about the way we design a-nd build ·intelligent building", by identifying the Building Management Systems (BMS), the Building Automation Systems (BAS) and the Building Services System (BSS) which is much involve in constructing an "intelligent building" by integrating between them. This is to recognize that the relationship between design, installation. construction. commissioning, maintenance and appraisal which is essential for the buildings to respond to the needs of the people and if investment is not to be wasted. Moreover, this dissertation is hope to find out the differences in constructing an "intelligent building" in a few continent of the world. This would lead to the advantages and the disadvantages of an ·intelligent building". As a conclusion, this dissertation is involve in a study of an "intelligent building" in Malaysia, to determined whether it has the characteristic of so called "intelligent building" between it and other major building's in the world. | en_US |
