Various aspects of population ecology of Norway Rat (Rattus norvegicus) was carried out at four different locations of market areas in Batu Lanchang, Taman Tun Sardon, Bayan Lepas and Chowrasta for eight months from 21st May 2004 to 25th June 2005. The Capture, mark, release and recapture method was used to estimate the population size, density, home range, sex ratio, age structure and average weight of the animals at the study locations. By using the Jolly-Seber method, population densities for Pasar Batu Lanchang, Taman Tun Sardon, Bayan Lepas and Chowrasta were 19, 27, 101 and 115 individuals/ha respectively. The sex ratio between males and females in Jelutong is (1 :3.5), Taman Tun Sardon (1 :2.2), Bayan Lepas (1: 2.5) and Chowrasta (1 :0.6). ANOVA analysis showed that regressions for male and female body weight were significantly different for each site. Regression between male body weight and body length for each location was significantly different at P < 0.05 and similarly for females at P < 0.05. Reproductive study was conducted in Chowrasta and Lebuh Buckingham. Sixty males and 46 females were caught in these two locations. There is a different in embryo's number between field's females and laboratory's females which prove by ANOVA. The animals breed throughout the year depends on the females autopsy. ANOVA found that regression between the length and the weight of testicles during maturity was significant at P < 0.05. The regression between age and weight of dry lens were significant too at P < xviii 0.05 by using the statistical analysis. R. norvegicus really active at two different periods, starting at 1700 untii 2200 hours and 2200 until 0100 hours. ManWhitney U-Test found that active period for males are significantly longer and higher compare to females. Minimum Convex Polygon 50%, 95%,100% and Harmonic Mean 50%, 95% had been used to study the homerange and core area of each collared individual and individual -34 had the largest homerange 53352.00 m2 (MCP 95%) and core area size 11950.00 m2 (HM 50%).en_US
