| dc.description.abstract | This thesis attempted to investigate religious liberalism in Malaysia, specifically from the perspective of ‘aqidah Islam (Islamic belief). It aims to observe the position of liberalism as well as to explain to the society about Islam. In accomplishing this research, qualitative data collection was employed, in which document analysis and interviews with those who support religious liberalism were conducted. The data gained then arranged and analysed with descriptive and historical method. The main focus of the research was the issue of ‘aqidah (belief). The research finds that there exists the movement of religious liberalism in the country. It progresses by disseminating transformation in religion, which begins with new interpretations of religious texts. Religious liberalisms undergo different levels of distortion; some are extremely dangerous while some others are mildly dangerous. The extremely dangerous distortion includes the rejection of the Prophet Muhammad as the messenger of Allah. Besides, the research also discovers that Islam has a permanent identity where not all aspects in Islam change according to time. Islam plays the role of a teacher that the society is to obey the religion and not in the other way round. Every single field has its experts and all the transformations in the religion of Islam should be handled by its experts. Islam brings people to safety. Therefore, those who seek for safety are always encouraged to embrace Islam although there is no compulsion for them to act so. It is important to note that Islam is a religion of truth and all human beings are the servants of Allah s.w.t. and are to obey to the teachings of the Prophet. | en_US |
