dc.description.abstractThe accounting profession in Malaysia is facing a dilemma of shortage of accotmtants. The demand for accountants is higher than the supply of accountants in Malaysia. The small number of accountants in this country is because only a handful of students would like to pursue accountancy due to their poor perfonnance in accounting subjects. This study attempts to analyze the reasons for the poor grade in Principles of Accounting course. Factor analysis and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. There were a total of two hundred and fifty respondents participated in this study. Results of factor analysis indicate five major factors: ability of students, motivation, instructional style of teachers, home . environment. and peer influence as the factors influencing their performance in this subject Respondents are students Fonn 5 students located in Kedah. Findings of the study have shown that the main reason for getting good grades are the students' aptitude, ability and motivation.en_US
