Abstract
This study is done to analyze and determine parents' perception and acceptations towards the introduction of sex education among teenagers in school. The discourse of sex education has long been a controversial topic among Malaysians but none of the studies has been done to include parents' perception. This study is a quantitative study that obtained 99 respondents that are the parent of the school teenagers from the selected schools in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Four schools have been chosen by the Kelantan Education Department to be participating in this study. The data collection was a random sampling that using questionnaire to evaluate the parent perception and acceptance towards sex education. The significance level for this study is a=0.05. This study has exposes that majority of parents have positive perception towards sex education {70.7%) while only 29.3% of the parents' chose 'neutral' as an answer. The data analysis to correlate between socio-demographic status of the parents' and perception towards sex education only show a positive correlation between the parent age and the number of their boys that are schooling in high school. The p value of correlation between parents' age and perception is p=0.019 while correlation between numbers of their boys schooling in high school is p=0.029. The p value of correlation between parent perception and acceptance towards sex education is p=O.OOO, and have a positive correlation. The most accepted topic in sex education is HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted disease to be taught to the high school-teenagers. As a conclusion, parents' perception towards sex education should be more concern so that the discourse of sex education in school being well accepted by the parent. This will contribute to the well-being of teenagers. The good information and spreading of information about sex education should be more available to the public to raise awareness about the important of sex education in teenagers.
