Research on small and medium-sized (SME) firm internationalization has been conducted intensively over the last few decades. However, knowledge of SME firm internationalization varied. This research addresses the question of this variety in SME firm internationalization applying institutional theory and resource-based theory. The more recent studies showed that researchers have inclined towards one conclusive finding on the central role of the moderating effect of liability of foreignness in internationalization of SMEs when exporters possibly resides in the decision made by the manager. To give a different perspective from the existing internationalization theories that have been developed around manufacturing firms in developed countries, this research was conducted on manufacturing firms in emerging country, Malaysia. A quantitative-method approach was used to generate a model of export performance. The results showed that liability of foreignness indirectly effect on internationalization and performance among SMEs exporters. Malaysian SMEs were not suffered by liabilities when moving their business in foreign market. Malaysia government fully supports any SMEs business activities in perspective of promoting and selling local product in foreign market. Future research can be extended to modify with control variable in the study, to improve the power of the test, the sample size should be larger for better significant and best statistical assumptions. It should be enlarge the sample by taking the data from FMM directory. Besides, specific respondents should be strictly targeted in order to get more reliable data, for instance; export manager should be used as respondents. On the other hand, interview method also can be used in order to get more precise information for the studyen_US
