Abstract
Highlights of the literature shows that there are a number of terms used to refer to the word Chetti. The word in question is Chetty, Chefin, Chati, Chafin, Chettijn, Kitty, and so on (Rachmat, 1997: 40). In terms of etymology, the word is derived from the Malayalam moneylenders, Tamil, Telugu shetti or, settl1 , For the general public, Chetti means the South Indian caste Chettiar who lived in Kampung Keling, Malacca and running events lend money. Thus, this word connotes borrowers money. In a sense, indeed Chetti word meaning moneylenders called nagarafhar nattukkottai Chettiars (Rabeendran, 1976: 6) that so now exists in Kampung Keling, Malacca. On the other hand, there is another called Chetti community and this community is not Chetti community to do with this class of moneylenders. group Chetti intended ~ This is the group of Hindu Malacca Straits. they also called Hindu or Indian Peranakan Babas.
