dc.description.abstract | Highlights of the literature shows that there are a number of terms used to refer to the word Chetti. The word in question is Chetty, Chefin, Chati, Chafin, Chettijn, Kitty, and so on (Rachmat, 1997: 40). In terms of etymology, the word is derived from the Malayalam moneylenders, Tamil, Telugu shetti or, settl1 , For the general public, Chetti means the South Indian caste Chettiar who lived in Kampung Keling, Malacca and running events lend money. Thus, this word connotes borrowers money. In a sense, indeed Chetti word meaning moneylenders called nagarafhar nattukkottai Chettiars (Rabeendran, 1976: 6) that so now exists in Kampung Keling, Malacca.
