Abstract
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a widely used encoding method in digital communication due to its high number of advantage such as multipath delay spread tolerance, immunity to the frequency selective fading channels and power efficiency. The bad side of this method is it has high Peak Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and cause significant nonlinear distortions and severe power penalty. To solve this problem Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique with Selective Mapping (SLM) are proposed in this thesis. The modulation scheme used is Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK). By the end of the process, CCDF plot versus probability of PAPR is computed and the BER is accepted. The perfomance of PAPR reduction in OFDM system is affected by number of subcarriers and size of alphabet. The value of PAPR increase proportionally with the number of subcarriers. On the other side, the value of PAPR decrease as the alphabet size increase for original OFDM system but as SLM+PCA technique applied to the system, PAPR has the same value for all alphabet size. With these results, it is concluded that the combination of SLM with PCA can help reduce PAPR in OFDM.
