Porous media is the one of the most used components of Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). Porous media is effective in reducing peak discharge because it allows water to infiltrate into the ground and improve the quality of water by removing physical pollutants. Porous media is usually used in car parks, garden and pedestrian walkway. This study is carried out with the main objective of investigating the characteristics of flow over porous media. This is done by carrying out a physical experimental using method of dam-break flow. Parameters such as initial depth of reservoir, and the porosity of the porous media, are manipulated. The experiments were conducted in four cases with five repetitions for each case. Each cases comprises of different porosity, of 0.227 and 0.286 and different initial depth of reservoir, of 5cm and 10cm. Deductions were made from studying the relationship between the lengths of spreading with time. It was found that the flow propagation in longitudinal and spreading in lateral directions depends on the reservoir depth and porosity of the media. The findings from this study will provide better understanding of flow over porous media and thus contribute to the development of Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS).en_US
