Abstract
Although the performances of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) were
widely studied by many researchers but existing researches lack consensus on the
basic constructs affecting entrepreneurial performance. The phenomenon exists in
entrepreneurial performance basically due to lack of consistency of theoretical
imperatives which researchers adopt without taking into consideration the findings of
previous researchers. Moreover, studies on women entrepreneurs are insufficient thus
far. This study attempts to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial
orientation, founder competencies and women entrepreneurial success using self
perceived satisfaction with financial performance such as sales growth, return on
sales, cash flow, net profits, growth in market share and return on investment, and
non-financial performance such as self-satisfaction, career progression, customer
satisfaction, employee satisfaction, relationship with suppliers, and their work life
balance. A sample of 166 women entrepreneurs in Malaysia participated in this
study. With the intention wanting to know what are the factors contributing to their
successful counterparts and hopefully learn from the success stories of others.
