Abstract
This thesis describes the design of a single-phase inverter using sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique for general application. Microcontroller PIC16F628A is used as switching controller to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulation signal. Method of design is based on lookup table and manipulating the hardware pulse width-modulating pin on PIC to generate SPWM signal. PicBasic Pro programming language used is capable of producing a more efficient inverter control circuit with stable output. The PIC as controller is capable of generating SPWM switching frequency between 5 kHz to 25 kHz with THD of 5% to 16% for voltage and current at linear load even without low pass filter. A DC-DC full bridge converter controlled by SG3525A integrated circuit is built to raise the voltage from 28-32 V to 400 V. The converter is capable of operating at frequency between 20 kHz to 50 kHz. The DC-DC converter designed produce maximum efficiency of 89% and the inverter can produce 90 % efficiency at 700 W pure resistive load. Overall efficiency of the inverter system is 89% with THD voltage and current of 1.6% and 1.9% respectively at 5 kHz switching frequency with low pass filter.
